1&1 Hosting Reviews

These 1&1 clowns pulled the old "bait and switch" on me by promising me on the phone that they had everything that I needed for e-Commerce if only I signed up for their MyWeb Premium Package.

Jackass on the phone went on and on about how it included e-Commerce and if there was something I couldn't do myself, they'd put me in touch with a partner that could I carefully explained to their sales team before ever getting involved that I needed to be able to have a custom shopping cart that allowed the customer to preview their custom order (we make personalized identification decals for professional and recreational divers) and that I'd like to have the customer enter their desired text for the decals twice to prevent spelling errors and reduce the opportunity for end-user mistakes. Sure, they have everything for e-Commerce BUT what I need.

What a bunch of slime bags!!! I asked the sales folks to put together a brief synopsis of our conversation on the phone in the form of a contract for my signature and was directed back to the website and the standard sign-up for the MyWeb Premium Package. Should have listened to the little voice in my head saying this didn't sound right.

So I signed up and left the country for a bit, traveling to several countries to dive at some remote locations and third world places where the diving is great, but technology infrastructure...not so much. Long story short, I didn't get much done in the first 30 days of the trial period, but ran into issues upon my return to the US and subsequent departure again for 1000 Islands in Canada. Turns out that I couldn't get their wizard to let me customize the shopping cart like I needed so I figured, no big deal, I can do some HTML and CSS stuff on my own and have hack my way through a form creation...NOPE. No access to the code allowed with MyWeb AT ALL. Weak!

Then I send an e-mail to the development team, figuring that they won't let me access the code so that they can make some money via web development and it turns out that their development team cannot even do that kind of thing, just static HTML. WEAK! I cannot even PAY them to do what I need done. I call and complain about the bait and switch BS and I get a different story each time, but finally got ahold of one guy (Andrew) who says, "Oops, Sorry. You can't do what you're looking to do with that package", and said that I could switch to their Linux hosting package at a much cheaper rate and then I'd have to build it all from scratch, but no worries because I could leave the MyWeb Premium Package up temporarily while I copied my copy from one site to another on their servers. I was disappointed that I'd have to start over, but at least the guy seemed like a straight shooter and the cost would be less, thanks to my having to do the heavy lifting with ZenCart or OScommerce.

I call back to arrange when they can shut down the old package and ask about where I can start the build, get MySQL installed, get ZC or OSC installed, and the clown I get on the horn tells me that I cannot do that unless I'm willing to pay for both and that I'm locked into a 12 month contract, so I cannot cancel anything to begin with. WTF! That's when I got furious with these dirtbags. I give the guy the reference numbers given to me after the conversation with the guy that finally seemed reasonable and they act like the conversation never occurred.

Called back to talk to customer service and explained that if they cannot provide what was promised to me before I got involved, there's no chance of their continuing to get paid for falling short of what was promised. They tell me that I should have cancelled before the trial period. Bullshit, they need to honor their word or let me the hell out of their bogus contract. What a crock!

After going into the control panel, unlocking my domain, starting the transfer of my registered name to GoDaddy, and calling them back because I got an e-mail that I needed to speak with the complaint department, I told the gentleman on the phone that I knew it was not his doing, but he is working for crooks and that I needed my domain released to GoDaddy. Explained that I've cancelled the credit card used to sign up and if they want some real trouble, they can go ahead and try to stick me with the bill when they have breached the verbal contract. I 100% dispute the charge and any future charges that these bastards think they might see me pay. Total scam. Lying sack of *** salespeople.

Screw 1&1. Do yourself the largest of favors and avoid these non-talented ass clowns like the damn plague.

I've been with 1&1 for just over a year. I signed up on a 1 year free promotion. I have had no problems with them what so ever. I don't have anything really fancy, no e-commerce or anything like that. But no matter when I go on line my site is there. I do have to pay extra for the website builder plus to enter my own code but the trade off is I get as many pages as I want on the domain. For the price I'm paying it's a good deal and the only time I had to contact customer service I had no problems. The person was amused with me because I forgot my password and had to look it up! She was very nice and very knowlegable. I've never had a problem with them charging me and then invoicing me. I always get the invoice by the 7th of the month that my bill is due.

We signed on to 1&1 for an ecommerce and server package. 6 months free tial. Everything great .. right? WRONG. The tech support and customer service people never understood the simple reasons I was taking both services. They wrongly activated URL's for the ecommerce package. It took emails and phone calls to straighten this out.

In meantime I had extreme health issues but continued thrugh the 6 months free trial and paid for 3 quarterly services NOT RENDERED at $209.94 each. Thus, paid a total of $629.82 for not using the service.

Received notice of billing 3 days after due date ( due date 7th. received email 10th). I called expecting to get a friendly chat and an extension or some help on the due date since I didn't want our credit card hit for another 10 days. Not only did I not get customer service or friendly discussions from billing/accounting, I was essentially treated like a captured criminal who will pay or else and there is nothing they can do about it. When I discussed their lack of customer service attitude I mentioned I did not even get a thanks for being a customer or thanks for paying $629.82 for no services rendered on their part. The accounting dept manager, Damion ( employee ID 2524 ) said they have nothing to thank us for and essentially told me we should make sure they get paid or the wrath of !&! will fall upon us.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND 1&1.

I ordered a domain from 1&1 a couple months ago, there was a special for 4.99 on domains. (.com, .net, and.org) So, I got a .org. about a month later, I got a letter from a collections agency saying I owe more than $20 to them. This is because instead of charging me $4.99, they charged me $7.99 (the standard fee), and then tried tacking on another $4.99, and there was only $7 left on my debit card. The extra charges come from being "late". I never received an e-mail or letter from them, it went straight into collections, which I am, of course fighting (by snail mail) I will NOT get another domain from them after this cheap trick.

I've been with 1&1 since March 2008, and have just changed to Hostgator. Initially 1&1 was quite good, but over the past 6 months their tech support has deteriorated to the point where it is next-to-useless. I cannot afford to have my sites inaccessible for days at a time, which is currently the case with 1&1 due to their firewall blocking connections from all over the world. At the moment I would not recommend 1&1 to anyone who is after a reliable host with decent tech support.

I have eshop configured on 1and1 and it's useless to me. They limit your optoin to ONLY USD, and indicate that the only way to get a different currency is to upgrade to their Advanced Option, one which costs $50 per month and is targeted for high output users i.e. 20,000 products per month. My store is for another country. Despite the fact that I will only be selling less than 50 products I should have to pay $50/mo for the simple fact that I am using a different currency symbol?? Something doesn't jibe here... Their inept support gives you the runaround rather than escalating to management......
